2001-2009

2001
Cimber Air initiates a new service between Kiel and Munich in collaboration with Team Lufthansa.
The 9-11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York has an immediate impact on the aviation industry and travelling patterns for the next many years.  The resulting low passenger numbers lead to the close-down of the Copenhagen – Luxembourg and the Berlin – Bremen services.

2002
On 13 May, Cimber Air takes over Maersk Air’s Copenhagen – Rønne service.
In October, Cimber Air enters an entirely new market when it takes over the operation of the former SAS service between Copenhagen and Wroclaw in Poland.

2003
On 25 February, Cimber Air buys back the shares that SAS acquired in May 1998 and Cimber Air is once again a 100% family-owned business.
In June, Cimber Air launches online booking on its website www.cimber.dk.
On 12 November, Cimber Air begins operating a scheduled service between Copenhagen and Basel.

2004
On 16 January, Cimber Air Maintenance Centre holds the topping-out ceremony for its new premises at Sønderborg Airport.
On 30 January, Cimber Air closes down its Aarhus – Copenhagen service.
On 14 April, Cimber Air opens a new non-stop service between Copenhagen and Bucharest with six weekly flights.
On 10 May, the first CJR jet departs from Copenhagen non-stop to Kiev with six weekly flights.
This is a very busy autumn season for Cimber Air. We take over the operation of the services from Billund to Brussels, Milan, Munich, Stockholm and Oslo from Maersk Air and build entirely new facilities at Billund. The fleet is expanded by five CRJ 200 aircraft leased from Maersk Air.
In November, Cimber Air initiates collaboration with SAS on the operation of seven services on a wet lease basis out of Copenhagen.

2005
In January, the Copenhagen – Kiev and Billund – Milan services are closed down due to dissatisfactory passenger volumes.
In August, Cimber Air closes down its operation of the Billund – Brussels service.
During the same period, Cimber Aviation Group is expanded by another subsidiary under Cimber Air Holding; Cimber Air Corporate Service.
On 23 December, the Kiel – Frankfurt service departs for the last time.

2006
On 9 January, the Billund – Copenhagen service is added to the Danish domestic route network with seven daily flights.
On 1 May, Cimber Air begins a new non-stop flight from Billund to Bergen with six weekly flights.
On 15 May, the Copenhagen – Norrköping service opens.
On 26 May, the customer base in Jutland is catered to a non-stop summer service from Billund to Bornholm.
On 3 July, the summer service between the Swedish cities of Norrköping and Visby opens.

2007
On 25 March, Cimber Air once again takes up the service between Copenhagen and Newcastle with one daily flight.
On 1 August, another service out of Billund opens, this time to Berlin with flights every day of the week. Cimber Air is now the largest operator at Billund Airport.
On 28 October, two new services open; Copenhagen – Lyon and Copenhagen – Prague.

2008
On 30 March, new services open from Norrköping to Helsinki and Munich and from Billund to Stavanger. The service between Copenhagen and Lyon is closed down.
On 11 August, the service between Copenhagen and Prague is closed.
On 15 September, Copenhagen – Aarhus opens.
On 23 October, Billund – Berlin is closed down.
On 3 November, Copenhagen – Bucharest is closed down.
On 24 November, Billund – London Gatwick opens and we increase capacity on Aalborg – Copenhagen and Billund – Copenhagen. This is a result of the Sterling Airways bankruptcy.
On 3 December, Cimber Sterling acquires parts of the insolvent Sterling.

2009
On 7 January, Cimber Air holds a press conference and launches its new name, Cimber Sterling, together with the business plan for the new Cimber Sterling with 20 new services out of Copenhagen, Billund and Aalborg.
On 9 January, Cimber Sterling announces its main sponsorship for the Danish men’s national handball team.
Five Boeing 737-700 aircraft each seating 148 passengers are acquired during the spring and new services are added to the leisure market.
On 5 October, Cimber Sterling receives the "Golden Anvil Award" an enterprise award by the newspaper Jydske Vestkysten.
On 8 October, we receive the prestigious silver award “Airline of the Year” from European Regions Airline Association.
At the introduction of the winter programme for 2009/10, Cimber Sterling offers its guests 60 services from Bergen in the north to Grand Canary in the south.
