1985
The 35th anniversary is celebrated by the acquisition of a new ATR 42 aircraft seating 46 passengers from the French manufacturer, Aérospatiale. The ATR 42 is characterised by advanced technology, low fuel consumption, high velocity and excellent passenger comfort.
The anniversary also marks a generational change in Cimber Air, with Ingolf L. Nielsen’s oldest son, Hans Ingolf Nielsen taking over the position as CEO. Ingolf L. Nielsen remains with the company as Chairman.
1985
Cimber Air together with French software house SEDAP and aircraft manufacturer Aérospatiale launch MIPS (Maintenance Information and Planning System), an IT system for managing aircraft maintenance at the Paris Air Show, and the system is immediately very successful and winds great recognition.
Cimber Air receives the first of three ATR 42 aircraft.
Cimber Air Data A/S is established to support and market the MIPS system which at the turn of the year has been sold to 11 airlines.
1987
On 30 March, Cimber Air opens a service to Humberside, its first service to the UK. In Germany, Cimber Air GmbH begins the operation of the Kiel – Frankfurt service in collaboration with Lufthansa.
1989
On 29 April, Cimber Air opens the service between Sønderborg and Montpellier with one weekly flight during the summer season.
1990
Cimber Air concludes an agreement with Lufthansa for the operation of domestic flights in Germany.
The fleet is expanded by another three ATR 42 aircraft.
