1971-1980

1971
Cimber Air concludes a business agreement with SAS and Maersk Air to establish the joint company Danair and to develop and strengthen domestic flight operations in Denmark.

1975
Cimber Air celebrates its 25th anniversary and enters the jet age for the first time. Cimber is the launching customer for the VFW 614 seating 46 passengers and with a flight time of 35 minutes between Sønderborg and Copenhagen.

1978
Two Fokker F28 MK 3000 jet aircraft are acquired to replace the VFW 614.
Unfortunately, the second oil crisis hits the market, resulting in rising fuel prices and falling passenger numbers.

1980
The jet aircraft and their crew and technicians are leased to the Saudi-Arabian airline Saudia.
The aircraft operate 13 different destinations in Saudi Arabia out of their new home base in the capital of Riyadh. The next six years are exiting and challenging but also very demanding on the staff, their families and the management.
Two Nord 262 aircraft are bought back and used for Danish domestic flights until 1985.
